About Us

Glen Hills Utility District of Greene County (GHUD) was petitioned for creation on April 1964 in accordance with the Utility District Law of 1937 to provide safe drinking water to area residents.  The proposed name was selected by area residents living in the Glenwood and Cedar Hill Communities of Greene County.  County Judge Carl Baxter signed the order creating the public corporation on April 28, 1964. A petition to further extend the boundaries was filed in July 1967 to include the current boundaries.

Glen Hills Utility District lies southeast of the City of Greeneville in the region of East Tennessee. It borders the Old Knoxville Utility District, Chuckey Utility District and the Greeneville Water Commission. The District borders both Cocke County and the North Carolina state line.

Glen Hills currently provides drinking water to 5,616 customers and utilizes 325 miles of water mains.  The source of our water is the Nolichuckey River.  We currently purchase all our water from Greeneville Water Commission.
